Kenneth Rockwood, MD

Co-Founder and President

Dr. Kenneth Rockwood is a Professor of Medicine (Geriatric Medicine and Neurology) and Clinical Research Professor of Frailty and aging at Dalhousie University. He is also a Staff Physician in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Nova Scotia Health, where he is the inaugural lead of the Frailty and Elder Care Network. He holds key roles in numerous studies in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. He received his MD from Memorial University in St. John’s, NL (1985), completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Alberta (1989), and Geriatric Medicine training at Dalhousie University (1991). He is a leading international authority on dementia and frailty. A recipient of numerous accolades and awards, Dr Rockwood was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2024 for his service to Canada and humanity and was the recipient of the 2021 Ryman Prize announced by the Right Honourable Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand. The award recognized Dr. Rockwood's more than 30 years of research, collaboration and practical clinical work for older adults living with frailty and dementia and his long-term campaign to battle ageism in healthcare. The Ryman Prize is an annual $250,000 international award for the best work carried out anywhere in the world that has enhanced quality of life for older people. It is the richest prize of its kind in the world. Dr. Rockwood has over 600 peer-reviewed publications.

Chère Chapman, MHSc, MBA

Co-Founder and CEO

Chère Chapman started her career as a patient-centered outcomes researcher at Dalhousie University where she published her first quality of life paper with her Biology Honors supervisor, Dr Rockwood. After a year in Japan, Chère returned to Canada to get her Master's in Health Science in Community Health and Epidemiology from the University of Toronto. There she developed a passion for HIV research which led her to Singapore as a staff epidemiologist at the Communicable Disease Centre. From there, she went to the UK to do her MBA at the London Business School immersing herself in social entrepreneurship and purpose-led business. Chère returned to Asia to establish a consultancy in Singapore and Vietnam developing multi-stakeholder partnerships with international NGOs and Fortune 100 companies. Chère negotiated complex projects from Papua New Guinea to India to Bangladesh for organizations such as CARE International, Visa, and The Clinton Foundation. Chère’s East Coast Canadian roots eventually pulled her back to Halifax where she combined her passions for patient-centered research and purpose-led business to co-found Ardea Outcomes with her mentor, Dr. Rockwood. Chère is a sought-after board member, investor, and mentor in the start-up ecosystem in Atlantic Canada.
